By now I think I've mentioned that every Monday I take grandma to the Beauty Shop down the street from her house to get her hair washed and set. Every once in a while the woman still gets her dyed! Gotta Love Grandma :)
I Have been taking Grandma to this Beauty Shop for about 2 years but Rosie was the lady that normally does her hair and about a month ago Rosie finally had her Baby. Now There are 2 other ladies that have stepped up to do her hair and have gotten to know Grandma in a whole new way. Now, I being that I have known my grandmother for 30 years I forget that I speak Spanish and she does not and that some people would wonder. Sure enough, the first time she goes to see Lulu and I start explaining what how she gets her hair done and she agrees and I go about my business of grocery shopping and going through the mail with out her trying to stop me. When I go to pick her up about 2 hours later Lulu asks me if I take of her and I reply Yes, she's my grandmother (in Spanish) and then the questions begin... She is? Why do you speak Spanish? Really? I explain that my mom is Mexican etc and hey Sometimes people are different!
Now after a couple of weeks they have gotten to know her and I have explained my situation with her and how I am looking for help because of her memory issues. They have also noticed that she has been forgetting certain things but they overall really enjoy her being there even though they can barely communicate. Last week they said they would be interested in going to visit her at home and and talking to her or taking her out every once in a while. I think that's a great idea! This week I left her there for about 3 hours and she had a great time sharing her life story When I picked her up today they just kept going on and on about how great she is and that she does understand what they are saying and that I should take her earlier so she can spend more time there. I think it's great because she only gets out of the house Sunday for church and Mondays when I go visit. So let's see how this goes!
